Character Creation

You get one character. Here is what that means, how you reach the creation screen, and how your class and builds fit in.

Overview

Character creation on Perilous Legends is short, but it matters, because you only make one character. There is no roster of alts to hedge with - the character you build is the one you play. The good news is that "one character" is far more flexible than it sounds: you can change your class, and you can hold several full skill builds on that single character. Take a minute over the start, but do not treat it as a life sentence.

Getting to the Screen

You do not type a username and password to make an account. When you sign in through the launcher the first time, the server creates your account automatically and drops you onto the standard Ultima Online character-creation screen with a single empty slot. Full sign-in walkthrough is on the Installer page.

On that screen you set the classic things - appearance, starting stats, and starting skills. It is the familiar UO creation flow, nothing exotic.

One Character

Perilous Legends allows one character per account, and one account per person. That empty slot you start with is the only one you get. It is deliberate: a single character per player is what keeps the shard's fairness from being farmed by armies of alts, and it makes the character you build actually mean something. The reasoning in full is on One Account, One Character.

No alts, so plan the one. You cannot make a throwaway to test a class or a second character to stash goods on. That said, you are not painting yourself into a corner - read the next two sections before you worry about "getting it wrong."

Choosing a Class

Your character starts with no class. You pick one in-world once you are playing, not on the creation screen - open the class panel (the [Class command, or a class Guildmaster) and choose. The classes are:

Your first class choice is free and instant. And you are not stuck with it: you can change class later, behind a short channel and a cooldown, and each class keeps its own level so a class you leave is waiting where you left it. Each class plays differently and earns differently. Read the full write-up of every class, with strengths and playstyle, on the Classes page before you settle in.

Not Locked to One Build

One character does not mean one skill set. Through the Personality system, that single character can hold several complete builds - each its own set of skills and stats - and swap between them with a short channel. You get two build slots for free and can unlock more with gold. So the classic worry of a skill-based shard, "did I ruin my character by training the wrong thing," largely goes away: make a second build and train it up alongside the first. How it works, including the catch that a brand-new build starts your skills at zero, is on Skills & Stats.

After You Create

Once your character exists, you are in the world. From here, follow the New Player Guide: get your bearings, choose your class near a town, and work toward your first real goal - usually Trade Packs for gold. And remember it is a full-loot shard, so bank anything you would hate to lose.
