Sea Maps & the Sunken Trove
From a net hauled over the rail to a compass whose needle leads to a trove and a boss. The message in a bottle, rebuilt from the keel up.
Overview
The old messages in a bottle are gone (every one you owned became a wax sealed bottle). In their place is a chain: nets pulled up while fishing from a fishing boat, the sea creatures a net stirs up, the wax sealed bottles the biggest of them carry, the hundred clue fragments inside those bottles, the four sunken codexes the fragments build, and the Seafarer's Magical Compass the four codexes make. The compass leads to the Sunken Trove, a chest you keep, and one of the three sea bosses.
Special Fishing Nets
- A special fishing net is a rare pull from ordinary fishing. You must be standing on a fishing boat with 80 or more Fishing; the better your Fishing, the more often one comes up. Every net wears one of the special net colours.
- A net can only be thrown from a fishing boat. Double-click it and target the water. The net sinks, and five seconds later the sea answers: sea serpents, medusa jellyfish and water elementals, with a Water Titan in about one net in three and a Kraken in about one net in five.
- Titans and Krakens can leave a wax sealed bottle on their corpse.
Wax Sealed Bottles
Double-click a wax sealed bottle to break the seal. Inside is one of 100 clue fragments: four colours (green, blue, red, yellow), numbered 1 to 25. The bottle is used up.
Clue Fragments
- Single-click a fragment to see its colour and number.
- Double-click it for a cursor, then target another fragment of the same colour with a different number. Both are consumed and a sunken codex in progress is born, greyed until it is finished.
- Target a codex in progress of the same colour instead, and the fragment is added to it. A number can only be used once in a codex; a duplicate is refused.
- All 25 numbers of a colour complete that colour's codex.
The Sunken Codex
- A finished codex, double-clicked, charts a barnacled chest at one of a hundred sites at sea and gives you the coordinates.
- Sail there and fish with the codex in your pack. The chest comes up onto your deck holding twice what a barnacled chest normally does. The codex is used up.
- How close you must be to the charted tile follows your Fishing and your pole: exact tile at no Fishing with a plain pole, one tile more for every 10 points of Fishing, and one more per wood tier of the pole you cast with.
The Seafarer's Magical Compass
- Open the context menu on a finished codex and choose Combine. Target a finished codex of another colour: both are consumed and a seafarer's compass in progress appears. Double-click it to see which colours are bound and which are still needed.
- Combine a finished codex with the compass in progress to add its colour. One codex of each colour completes the Seafarer's Magical Compass.
- The compass's context menu offers Locate Sunken Trove. It needs 100 Fishing (the beta value; 120 at launch). The needle gives you a tracking arrow and nothing else: no coordinates, just the arrow to the exact tile.
The Sunken Trove
- Follow the arrow and fish at that tile from any ship. A galleon or a warship is wise; this is not a fishing boat's moment. 100 Fishing (beta value) and the compass in your pack bring the trove up onto your deck. The compass is used up.
- The trove holds everything a Gargantuan treasure chest holds, plus three ship upgrades and three crew contracts.
- As it surfaces, one of the three sea bosses rises around your ship: Osiredon the Scalis Enforcer, Charybdis or the Leviathan. Each carries a ship upgrade and a crew contract of its own.
The Clue Tome
The Clue Tome on the Perilous Vendor files wax sealed bottles and all 100 clue fragments, with a filter for each colour, so a season's worth of fragments fits in one book. Bottles and fragments filed there survive server restarts.
Skills That Matter
| Skill | Effect |
|---|---|
| Fishing | 80 to pull a net. More Fishing means more nets, and more reach when fishing at a charted tile. 100 (beta value) to locate and raise the trove. |
| Fishing pole | Each wood tier of the pole adds a tile of reach at a charted site. |
| Ship handling | The trove is raised from any ship. Bring the one that can fight. |
Tips
- Throw nets with friends aboard. A Water Titan or a Kraken is a fight, and the bottle is on the corpse of whoever wins it.
- File fragments in the Clue Tome as you find them and trade duplicates; every colour needs all 25 numbers and nobody pulls a full set alone.
- Read a finished codex before you combine it: its chest is a strong haul on its own, and the compass wants the codex whole.
- When the arrow holds steady, stop the ship on the tile before you cast; the trove comes up where you stand.
- Codexes Fished Out and Admiral's Troves Retrieved on the leaderboards count every chest and trove.
