Treasure Maps
Five sizes of map piece, a hundred charted sites, guardians at every chest, and a hundred-point Gargantuan map that wakes a boss worth ten power scrolls.
Overview
A treasure map on Perilous Legends is a map piece. It comes in five sizes, it leads to one of a hundred treasure sites set around the world, and every chest it uncovers is guarded until the guardians are dead. Pieces are also points: combine enough of them and they become a Gargantuan Trove Map, the richest chest in the game, with a boss standing over it.
The Five Map Pieces
| Piece | Points | Cartography to decode | Class coins in its chest |
|---|---|---|---|
| a small corner map piece | 1 | none | 1 |
| a fair sized map piece | 2 | 41 | 2 |
| a large map piece | 3 | 51 | 3 |
| a complete map piece | 4 | 61 | 4 |
| a massive map | 5 | 70 | 5 |
Every map you already owned from the old system became one of these five.
Decoding & Digging
- Decode the piece with Cartography. A decoded piece leads to one of the hundred charted treasure sites, not a random spot in the wilderness.
- Walk to the spot and double-click the map to dig where you stand. There is no cursor to aim.
- With no Mining you must stand on the exact tile. Every 10 points of Mining lets you dig from one tile further away, and the metal your shovel is made of adds one more tile per tier (dull copper 1, up to valorite 8 and perilite 9).
- The chest rises from the ground on the nearest free tile.
Guardians
Every chest comes with guardians, and their strength scales with the map: a small corner piece calls a few weak creatures, a massive map calls a dangerous pack. The chest cannot be unlocked or looted while any guardian lives. Lifting items out of an open chest no longer spawns monsters; the fight happens before the lid opens.
What a Chest Holds
- Gold, magic items, reagents and materials scaled to the map's size.
- Class coins of one random class, one per map tier: a massive map's chest holds five.
- The lock scales with the map. Map piece chests are not trapped.
The Gargantuan Trove Map
- Decoding it takes 100 Cartography (the beta value; it rises to 120 at launch). It leads to one of five special sites.
- Digging it up wakes a boss with 100,000 hits, drawn from the champion bosses, the Hydra, Clockwork Exodus and Chief Paroxysmus, with his own guardians around him.
- When the boss dies, ten power scrolls are dealt out to the players who fought him, highest damage first, straight into backpacks.
- The chest holds a quarter of a million gold or more, twenty magic items, a hundred class coins of one class, a stack of Rare, Ultra Rare and Mythical rolls, a chance at a Unique far above anything else in the game, treasure hue cloth and a treasure hue dye, and a small chance at 5,000 Perilous Marks.
- The chest is trapped to kill. The trap fires on everyone within three tiles of whoever opens it and stays armed until it is removed. Lockpicking and Remove Trap both need 100 (beta value) to deal with it.
- The Treasure Lock minigame can trigger on a Gargantuan chest too; win it and a second full chest appears beside the first.
Combining Pieces
- Open the context menu on a map piece and choose Combine. Target another piece, or a gargantuan map in progress.
- Two pieces become an incomplete gargantuan map segment showing its points out of 100. Feed it more pieces and it grows.
- At 100 points it becomes a Gargantuan Trove Map. Points past 100 carry into a fresh segment, so nothing is wasted.
Every map piece is worth something. The small corner pieces that used to be junk are now a point each toward the biggest chest in the game.
Skills That Matter
| Skill | Effect |
|---|---|
| Cartography | Decodes the piece. The Gargantuan map needs 100 (beta value). |
| Mining | One tile of digging reach per 10 points, on top of the shovel's metal tier. |
| Lockpicking | Opens the chest. The Gargantuan chest needs 100 (beta value). |
| Remove Trap | Disarms the Gargantuan chest's killing trap. Needs 100 (beta value). |
Tips
- Bring a group for a massive map and a raid for a Gargantuan one. The guardians stand between you and the lid every time.
- Craft a good shovel. A valorite shovel at no Mining already digs from eight tiles away.
- The Gargantuan trap kills whoever is within three tiles of the opener. Clear everyone back before the chest is opened, and remove the trap first.
- Power scrolls from the boss go to the people who did the damage, so fight from the first swing.
- Treasure Hunter and Gargantuan Hunter on the leaderboards count every map you complete.
