Leaderboards & Seasons

A season scoreboard laid over a permanent world - compete for the top spots without ever wiping your character.

Overview

The leaderboard system is a competitive scoreboard layered on top of the normal, permanent world. It takes its shape from the seasonal ladders on UO Outlands, but tuned for Perilous Legends: nothing about a season resets your character, your skills, or your items. Seasons only reset the scores, so the ladder gives you something to chase without ever threatening what you have built.

It is a broad system - around 40 boards spread across 13 categories, covering nearly every way players compete on the shard, from PvP rating ladders to hunting, gathering, crafting, sea combat, and the casino.

Seasons

A season runs 45 days. Each is its own ranking window, and the board tracks your standing in the current season alongside a lifetime total that never resets. When a season ends, the system does four things: it archives that season's final standings to a Hall of Fame, hands out placement points (see below), wipes the season counters while keeping every lifetime total, and softly resets the rating ladders back toward the middle so the next season starts fresh but not from zero. The shard then announces the new season to everyone online.

Scores are cached rather than recomputed on every kill, so standings settle over a season instead of flickering with each point.

The Boards

The categories map onto what the shard actually offers. The competitive layer uses skill-rating ladders for the arena modes; the rest are cumulative counters that tally an activity over the season. A sample of the real boards:

Viewing the Boards

The leaderboards live in a two-pane gump you open with a command - [Leaderboards (or the short [LB). Each board shows the top 50 for the current season, and you can flip a board to its lifetime totals. [Top <board> jumps straight to one board, and your own rank is looked up whether or not you cracked the top 50. Ranking is by account - since Perilous Legends is strictly one account, one character, your name is your standing.

Reward Points

Placing well earns leaderboard reward points. When a season closes, every board pays out points to its top 50 - 50 points for first place down to 1 for fiftieth - and those points bank to your account for life and never reset. Top many boards in a season and you bank a lot; that is intended.

The points are meant to be spent in a Leaderboard Point shop that is not built yet. You can already check your banked balance with [Leaderboards points, but the shop and its exact contents are still being finalized. What is locked in is the principle the shard holds everywhere: ranking is about pride and bragging rights, not power. There is no gold payout for placing, and there is no pay-to-win currency anywhere on the shard for any of it to touch.

The point shop is not live. Points are being banked now so early competitors don't lose their finishes, but there is nothing to spend them on yet. Watch Discord for when the shop opens and what it stocks.

Current Status

The seasonal leaderboard system is built, fully wired, and deployed - but shipped switched off. Every scoring hook is in place across the game, but the system records nothing and the gump shows nothing until a staffer turns it on; that flip is what starts Season 1 and its 45-day clock. So the framework is done and waiting, not yet running for players.

This page describes the system as it is coded. Because it is not switched on yet, treat board names, scoring, and the reward shop as the intended shape - confirm what is actually live in Discord and in-game once seasons begin.
