Disenchanting & Durability

Gear wears out and breaks, nothing repairs it, and disenchanting old magic loot is how you keep the good stuff going.

Overview

Perilous Legends runs a deliberate gear lifecycle: everything you wield wears down, there is no repair, and gear that hits zero durability breaks for good. The one lifeline is Ether Charged Powder, made by disenchanting magic loot, and it can restore a piece to full exactly once. The point is to keep gear moving - loot flows, gets used up, and gets replaced instead of sitting in a bank forever.

How Durability Works

Every weapon and every piece of armor on the shard starts at a flat 250 durability. That is the number, full stop - exceptional quality, runic crafting, the metal or wood it is made from, and old durability modifiers no longer raise it. A vanquishing valorite blade and a plain iron one both start at 250.

Durability ticks down as you fight, the way it always has in UO. The difference here is what happens at the bottom: when a piece reaches 0 durability it breaks and is deleted. It does not drop to a lower maximum and limp along - it is simply gone, and you see the "your equipment is severely damaged" warning as it goes.

No Repair

There are no repair deeds, no smith repairs, no tinker or tailor repairs. Repair has been removed entirely. The only way to put durability back onto a piece is Ether Charged Powder, and even that is a one-time restore per item. Plan around it: your gear is a consumable with a long fuse, not a forever investment.

Disenchanting for Powder

Disenchanting is how the good magic loot you do not need turns into fuel for the gear you do. Feed a magic weapon or piece of armor into a disenchanter and it is destroyed, yielding Ether Charged Powder. Mundane, non-magic gear cannot be disenchanted - there is nothing in it to draw out.

How much powder you get scales with how powerful the item was, from 1 to 5:

Powder yield by item power
ItemRough yield
A weakly magic weapon or armor (e.g. Ruin / Defense)1 powder
Mid-tier magic gear2 - 3 powder
A vanquishing weapon, or invulnerability armor4 powder
A vanquishing weapon with an extra mod (accuracy, slayer)up to 5 powder

Weapon yield reads off its damage level plus a point each for an accuracy bonus and any slayer property; armor yield reads off its protection level. Either way the result is capped between 1 and 5.

The Disenchantment Wand

The wand is the crafted disenchanter. A scribe makes it with Inscription (guaranteed at 100 skill) from 10 boards and 1 Arcane Gem. The wood you use sets its charges, colour, and name - plain wood gives 100 charges, each wood tier above adds 25 (up to Frostwood at 250, Perilwood at 275), so a "Bloodwood Disenchantment Wand" comes in the bloodwood hue.

Double-click the wand and target a magic weapon or armor (runics included). The item dissolves into its powder, the wand spends one charge, and when the last charge is used the wand crumbles.

The Disenchantment Chest

The chest is the quality-of-life option: no charges, no crafting. Secure it in a house, then just drop any magic weapon or armor inside and it is instantly disenchanted, with all the powder collecting into a single running pile kept in the chest. It refuses anything that is not a magic weapon or armor, and it will not work until it is secured in a house.

Ether Charged Powder

Powder stacks, and it takes a stack of 25 to do anything. Double-click a stack of 25 or more, target a worn-down weapon or piece of armor, and it is restored to full 250 durability. That spends the 25 powder and can only ever be done once per item - an item that has been ether-restored can never be restored again, so save it for a piece you actually love.

It is a full restore, not a stacking upgrade. The powder returns an item to 250, the same ceiling it started at. It does not push a piece above 250 or add repeat charges, so there is no point pouring it into a fresh item.

Pet Equipment Wears Too

The lifecycle now covers Pet Equipment as well - the gear you strap onto tamed creatures wears down like your own. It can also be repaired the same way: Ether Charged Powder restores a worn piece of Pet Equipment back to full, once per piece. Factor that into how you kit out a pet you take into hard content. See Pet Equipment for the slots and how that gear is made.
