Skinning
Carve enchanting materials from corpses with an Enchanted Skinning Knife. The better the beast, the better the cut.
Overview
Skinning is the shard's own gathering skill and the only source of enchanting materials. Double-click an Enchanted Skinning Knife and target a fresh corpse. Full material list and sources are on the Enchanting & Skinning page.
What It Does
- Success chance is 50% + half your skill (certain at 100), plus a small bonus from the knife's metal.
- Creatures are tiered by how dangerous they are, by reputation or by sheer toughness, whichever is higher: Q1 (weak), Q2, Q3, Q4 (bosses and the like). Your skill sets what you can take: Q1 from 0, Q2 from 26, Q3 from 51, Q4 from 76. Skin something above your tier and you get nothing.
- One material per corpse, of the creature's quality. A second one procs on 2% per knife metal grade above iron plus 1% per skill point over 100.
- 10% chance of a bonus catalyst of matching quality. Undead also roll a Marrow Bone (10/25/40/55% by tier).
- A corpse that has already been carved with an ordinary knife cannot be skinned, so skin first.
On Perilous Legends
- The Enchanted Skinning Knife is a Tinkering craft (30 to 80 skill, 3 iron ingots) with 50 to 100 durability by metal; every attempt costs 1.
- Ranger Snare Trap kills have a 20% chance to yield double materials.
Classes That Use It
Artisan: Gathering Mastery (level 10 fork) adds +5 effective Skinning per Artisan level, alongside Mining and Lumberjacking.
Training It
Skin everything you kill; every attempt is a skill check, harder against weak corpses as you climb. Champion power scrolls take it to 120.
