Monster of the Month
Every month a different monster family carries a color no one else can. Hunt it while the month is live - the breath fades when the calendar turns.
Overview
Monster of the Month puts one monster family in the spotlight every month and gives it a color that drops nowhere else. Kill that family while its month is running and you have a shot at a breathing cloth and a set of dyes in the month's signature hue - twelve colors across the year, each tied to a different foe.
The color is the whole point. These are not flat dyes; they are slow, living hues that breathe - drifting and catching the light as you move. When the month ends, that family goes quiet and the next one wakes, so a full set is a full year of hunting. Miss a month and you wait a year for it to come around again.
Breathing Hues
A breathing hue is animated. Instead of sitting on one fixed color, it eases through a narrow band of shades on a slow loop, so cloth and gear dyed with it seem to draw breath. The effect is deliberately subtle - faint but alive - not a strobing rainbow. Some read as a soft sheen sliding over metal (the charcoal Ettin, the pale Draconic); others as a color gently deepening and lifting (the red Spider, the blue Beholder).
Every one is built the same way: twenty shades that the client walks through in order and then unwinds, at an identical pace for all twelve, so a party wearing four different months drifts in step.
Because the client draws it, the effect costs nothing and never falls out of step. It also means the color keeps breathing everywhere it can be applied - on cloth, on dyed hair, on a beard, on a backpack, and on the spells you cast.
Watch them move. The clips below are the real in-game hues on a mounted character. Stills do not do them justice - the breathing only shows in motion.
The Calendar
Each month owns one family and one hue. The cloth and dyes are named for that month's color:
| Month | Monster family | Cloth & dye name |
|---|---|---|
| January | Orcs | Orcish Breath |
| February | Spiders | Spider Breath |
| March | Skeletons | Skeletal Breath |
| April | Ocean dwellers | Oceanic Breath |
| May | Gazers | Beholder Breath |
| June | Ogres | Ogrish Breath |
| July | Liches | Lich Breath |
| August | Lizardmen | Lizardmen Breath |
| September | Dragons | Draconic Breath |
| October | Ettins | Ettin Breath |
| November | Demons | Demonic Breath |
| December | Elementals | Elemental Breath |

The Drops
Only monsters of the active family drop the month's set, and only during their month. Two things can fall:
- Breathing cloth - a rare find, and a little likelier off the toughest monsters of the family (the big ones).
- A breathing dye - rarer still. Each one is a single random pick from a hair dye, a beard dye, a backpack dye, or a spell-hue deed, all pre-set to the month's color.
On top of that, being the month's featured family gives those monsters a small lift to their normal rare drops while the month runs - one more reason to hunt them now rather than later.
It ends. When the month turns over, the family stops dropping its cloth and dyes entirely and the next family takes the stage. Whatever you already own keeps its color forever - the drop just stops.
Collecting Them
- Twelve colors, one per month. A complete set is a year of hunting - there is no shortcut.
- Hunt during the month. The moment the calendar turns, this color is off the table until it comes back around.
- Go for the big ones. The toughest of the family drop the cloth and dye more often.
- Turn cloth into a wardrobe. Tailor the breathing cloth into clothing to wear the color, or trade the raw cloth to someone who will.
- Spend the dyes on what shows. Hair, beard, and backpack are always on display; the spell-hue deed marks a spellbook.
